Pickled Red Onions

Pickled Onions (GF)

Ingredients:

  • 1½ cups hot water

  • 1½ cups white vinegar

  • 2 tbsp. kosher salt

  • 2 tbsp. white sugar

  • 3 medium onions, thinly sliced (red or white)


Directions:

1. Prepare the Brine In a medium heat-safe bowl or jar, combine hot water, vinegar, salt, and sugar. Stir until fully dissolved.

2. Slice the Onions Peel and thinly slice the onions into rings or half-moons.

3. Add Onions to the Brine Place sliced onions into the brine, pressing down so they’re fully submerged.

4. Rest and Cool Let the onions sit for 30 minutes at room temperature, then transfer to the refrigerator.

5. Store Keep refrigerated for at least 2 hours before serving for best flavor.


Pro Tip: These stay fresh up to two weeks and are amazing on tacos, burgers, BBQ sandwiches, or salads. For extra flavor, add a few peppercorns or garlic cloves to the jar.
